About Ken. I am a retired engineer, photographic artist, writer, and traveler living in Portsmouth, NH. Since my wife and I moved to Portsmouth in 2017, I have been using my cameras to learn about and document my new home. These days you will rarely see me without a camera as I always see something new and interesting as I wander around Portsmouth. I have always wanted to express myself artistically, but I dance like a rusty robot, sing like a frog with a sore throat, and I can't even draw a stick figure, so, I decided to try photography. Photography provides me with tools that allow me to express myself artistically and creatively in a way that is understandable to other people, and in a way that I enjoy. Like many other photographers, when I first became interested in photography, I was a nature and landscape photographer. Today, even though I typically shoot whatever is in front of me, my current focus is street and urban photography. My enjoyment of this type of photography began totally by accident, in Washington, DC, as I sat at a window of a Starbucks and started to photograph the people going by. Unlike in nature photography, where I cursed people in my pictures, in street and urban photography, the people are the picture! Once I realized this somewhat obvious fact, it really excited me, and I never looked back! Since I moved to Portsmouth, I have had numerous opportunities to exhibit my photography, including my black and white photo of the Albacore, which is part of the long term Reflections of Portsmouth exhibit at the Foundry Place Garage. Here’s why Ken joined the PNH400 Photography Team: I was excited to get involved with PortsmouthNH400 as a way to give back to my community, and to be part of this historic celebration. In addition to doing photography, I also coordinate the PortsmouthNH400 tours of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Ken Goldman
